Does a bland diet cause constipation> Here are 3 Key Factors You May Be Overlooking

When people think of a "healthy diet," the first thing that often comes to mind is less oil, less salt, and eating bland foods.

As a result, many start eating boiled vegetables, boiled eggs, plain rice with vegetables, and even deliberately avoiding any oil. But have you noticed that the blander the diet, the more prone you are to constipation, bloating and even lethargy?

In fact, a bland diet ≠ oil-free ≠ automatically healthy. And if done incorrectly, it may actually make your intestines become "sluggish."

Why does a bland diet lead to constipation?

This usually happens because the body is lacking these 3 important elements:

1. Insufficient Fiber

  • When you don't consume enough vegetables and fruits, your intestines less stimulation, causing bowel movements to slow down and making it harder to pass stool naturally.

2. Insufficient Water Intake

  • Without enough water, stool becomes dry and hard, making bowel movements more difficult and uncomfortable.

3. Insufficient Fat Intake

  • Many people think all fats are "bad," but in fact, moderate healthy fats help lubricate the intestines. When fats intake is too low, the digestive tract lacks lubrication, making stool more likely to get stuck.

Many people only pursue "less oil and less salt," neglecting the "motivation" the body truly needs. A healthy intestine needs stimulation + water + lubrication to maintain normal, smooth peristalsis.

Therefore, the key is never "eating blandly," but rather eating a balanced diet.

To improve constipation, you can actually start from these three directions:

Method 1: Consume a high-fiber diet

  • A high-fiber diet helps reduce bloating, increase stool bulk, and retain water, making bowel movements smoother.
  • Recommendation: Consume moderate amounts of fruits, vegetables, beans, whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice, etc.

Method 2: Drink more water + Consume healthy fats

  • Water softens stool and works even better when combined with fiber; while "healthy oils" help lubricate the intestines, reducing dryness and discomfort.
  • Recommendation: About 8 glasses of water daily, and moderate amounts of olive oil, flaxseed oil, fish oil (deep-sea fish), nuts or avocado.

Method 3: Exercise regularly

  • Exercise helps stool move through the colon, making bowel movements smoother.
  • Recommendation: Jogging, Yoga, stretching exercise and walking more.

A truly healthy diet is about "balance," not "extremes."

A bland diet itself is not the problem, but the key is whether your body receives enough of the essentials:

🥗 High-fiber nutrients

💧 Sufficient water

🥑 Moderate amounts of oils

🧘🏻‍♀️ Regular exercise

When your body receives complete support, your digestive system can naturally regain its rhythm. And once your bowel movements become smoother, your body feels lighter, your mood improves, and your health benefits too.
